Is reflexology right for you?  Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a practise that deals with the principle that there are reflex points on the hands and feet which correspond to all parts of the body’s glands, organs and structures.

What are the benefits of having reflexology?

  •  To increase blood and lymph flow.
  •  To relieve stress and tension.
  •  To promote the unblocking of nerve impulses.
  •  To help the body maintain a state of balance.
  • To eliminate toxins from the body

Does Reflexology hurt?

No. Reflexology shouldn't hurt but some areas on the foot may feel tender or different.

What should i do if i do feel pain during a reflexology session?

If you do feel any kind of pain other than areas that are a bit tender you should let your therapist know and explain to them how it is making you feel.

How many treatments are needed?

This will depend on what your reflexologist is treating.

Just having one session can be beneficial - making it affordable to most -  especially when not dealing with a specific problem.

However, it isn't uncommon for a therapist to recommend around six treatments if dealing with specific issues.

You will have a full consultation with a therapist before any treatment takes place in order to establish the best course of action for your specific needs.

Aftercare advice

Following your treatment take care to :-

  • Avoid alcohol and smoking - do not smoke for 24 hours after treatment as treatments are detoxifying.
  • Drink plenty of water and avoid tea and coffee. This will assist the elimination of toxins from the body.
  • Eat fresh natural foods - processed foods add to the toxicity in the body

Caution

If you feel wobbly, vulnerable or light headed it is best not to drive straight after a treatment. Drink some water or a warm beverage (not tea, coffee or alcohol) and rest for a few minutes before you get in your car.

As your body eliminates toxins you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  •  Headache
  •  Nausea
  •  Extreme tiredness
  •  Increased activity of the bowels or of the bladder
  •  Change in your sleep pattern
  •  Emotional upsets

It is quite common to experience one or more of these symptoms, and they should only be temporary, but should you have any concerns or symptoms persist you should seek medical advice or refer back to your therapist.
